Sail Cargo
Raybel Charters is part of a growing international network of pioneers transporting cargo under sail, sharing a passion for the creation of a healthy transport culture that protects and conserves life and nature.
What is Sail Cargo?
Sail Cargo is a network of farmers, ships and traders, delivering food and drink across seas and oceans, emissions-free.
Within this community, all of us believe the current system of global trading needs to change if we are to have a healthy planet. Although we strongly believe local produce and local suppliers are crucial to this future, we don’t believe there needs to be a an end to trading across the seas. Trade brings us healthy commodities that we enjoy, are good for us and that cannot be grown locally. And it promotes connections between global communities.
But the shipping industry needs to decarbonise now, with fossil fuels eliminated from its operations. Sail ships can be part of the solution, by using the eternal power of nature’s forces – the wind, the tides, the long ocean currents. Until the creation of carbon fuelled shipping, sail power was the main means of sea transport for thousands of years.
Intertwined with our sail transport mission, we care about the quality of the produce we ship. We prioritise organic, nature-friendly and fairly-traded produce from small-scale farms and co-operatives, packaged and shipped to minimise waste.
We believe in developing fair and equal relationships with all the producers and farmers we work with, respecting their expertise and knowledge in caring for the land.
And our simple distribution network of farmer > sailor > trader > you, keeps the supply chain short: a transparent way of trading that cares for people and planet.
